During his lifetime, Dr Martin Luther King Jr. led dozens of marches to fight for equality and civil rights.
Thousands of Tulsans honored his work Monday with a parade. News on 6 reporter Omar Villafranca explains how Dr King's dream lives on.
The sounds of high school bands rang through downtown Tulsa to celebrate Dr Martin Luther King Jr’s life. Moms and dads brought their little ones to enjoy the sites and sounds and learn a little about the holiday.
Tulsa resident Arthur Thompson: “the kids are getting educated about what happened and what went on, what people went through, for them to have rights, for them to have freedoms to do things, so it's awesome."
More than 30 years after Dr. King fought for equality and freedom, the fruits of his labor are evident. Many parents watching the parade remember the struggle and plan on keeping the dream alive with their little ones. "I want her to know that the blood, the sweat and the tears of people like Martin Luther King, they went through a lot for us. And they paved the way. It's just awesome, because there are some things we will never have to go through."
The News on 6 was proud to be in Monday's parade. Anchors Scott Thompson and Lori Fullbright and reporter Ashli Sims rode together, waving and talking to the crowd. Thanks to everybody who shouted out their support.
