OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ Governor Brad Henry has signed new rules designed to stop tribal retailers from selling cigarettes with improper tax stamps.
The emergency rules were signed yesterday by Henry and take effect immediately.
State officials say the rules were needed to stop the loss of about $4-million a month. The loss was blamed on the cheap tax stamps being used improperly mostly in the Tulsa area.
The rules would affect only the sales of the reduced rate 6-cent stamps on cigarette packs sold in certain areas close to some of Oklahoma's borders.
About 40 tribal stores can sell packs with the reduced rate stamps.
