OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ Computer and video games were among the more popular gifts beneath the tree this year.
And a child development expert says those games could turn out to be excellent choices. Certain video and computer games can help a child or teen succeed in school and eventually the workplace.
The key is selecting the right games.
Doctor Robin Gurwitch of the OU Children's Physicians' Child Study Center says for preschoolers, games should stress counting, colors, language and letters.
For children of school age, it's important to have games that build problem-solving and analytical skills.
Gurwitch says certain adventure games can sharpen problem-solving skills. But she says there are legitimate concerns about very violent games with children of all ages.
