Family of slain Ada teenager calls for changes in bonds

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- The family of an Ada teenager who was killed by her mother's ex-boyfriend is joining the call for a law allowing judges to deny bond if a suspect is considered dangerous.

The family of Caitlin Wooten is at the state Capitol Thursday to support a proposed law by Senator Susan Paddock to allow judges to deny bond for some suspects. The judges would be allowed to consider a suspect's physical and mental status, character, criminal history and potential danger to society.

The 16-year-old Wooten was killed September 23rd by Jerry Don Savage after Savage kidnapped her after school. Savage then killed himself. The killing came less than a month after Savage bailed out of jail after he was accused of kidnapping Wooten's mother, Donna.

The judge couldn't deny bond for Savage because he wasn't accused of first-degree murder.
