National board certifies 212 Oklahoma teachers

ARLINGTON, Va. (AP) -- The National Board for Professional Teaching Standards says 212 Oklahoma teachers have receive National Board Certification.

The state ranks tenth in the nation in the number of teachers to be certified this year and Oklahoma now has a total of 1,289 board certified teachers.

Board certification is a voluntary process that generally takes more than a year to complete. The teachers are required to show how their activities in and outside the classroom improve student achievement.
