A fire near Checotah, in McIntosh County continues to smolder.

Among those who watched the flames Tuesday encroach on his home is Jim Glover. The high winds pushed a wall of fire within a few feet of his home and a few inches of a shed, but his home is still standing.

He credits firefighters who saved everything, including his animals. Jim Glover: "Did everything I could do, and luckily the fire department showed up just as it topped the hill and kept it from burning the house.”

Glover realizes others were not as fortunate. One man was hospitalized with serious burns and about a dozen homes in the area were destroyed. Several others were damaged.

More than 15 square miles were scorched. At this point, the cause is not known.

Methodist Mission located at Northwest First and Gentry in Checotah is taking donations to help fire victims. The Muskogee Chapter of the American Red Cross is also taking donations. That number is 918-682-1366.
