OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- State Treasurer Scott Meacham says the closing of the General Motors plant won't send the state's economy into a tailspin.

Meacham says the shut down of the plant and loss of 2,200 jobs will certainly be felt, especially in central Oklahoma. But he says the state economy is healthy and growing.

GM announced Monday morning it's closing assembly plants in Oklahoma City and four other North American cities and shutting down four other facilities. A total of about 30-thousand jobs are being eliminated.

Meacham says state officials will talk with GM, but says he's not very hopeful the company will reverse its decision because of its huge financial problems.
