OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ Tinker Air Force Base will have 730 new, privatized housing units within seven years.
A request for proposals on how to construct, develop and maintain the housing units at Tinker was released Thursday.
The government would lease 225 acres of land and turn over housing units for 50 years.
Once completed, the properties are expected to bring in about $600,000 in rent income a month.
The housing privatization at Tinker is part of a national movement by the military to update on-base housing without a lot of expenses on the government's part.
In the privatization projects, the winning company must come up with the bulk of the finances to make the improvements.
Tinker now has 694 revenue-producing housing units.
The successful developer will demolish and replace about 400 units, renovate about 50 residences and build 36 additional units.
