MUSKOGEE, Okla. (AP) -- Closing statements are due today in Muskogee in the penalty phase of the trial of a man convicted of killing an Oklahoma state trooper in 1999.
A federal jury has convicted Kennneth Barrett of killing Trooper Rocky Eales during a drug raid at Barrett's home in rural Sequoyah County.
Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty.
Wednesday, prosecutors presented testimony that Barrett has not been the model inmate as claimed by the defense.
Witnesses testified that Barrett threatened law officers while in jail and threw food at them. And US Marshal Service deputy Lloyd Vellek testified that Barrett laughed when Trooper Gene Hise cried while testifying about telling Eales' widow how he tried to save Eales' life.
