An Oklahoma soldier has been killed in Iraq. The small town of Inola is mourning the loss of one of their own.
24-year-old Travis Grigg was killed in a roadside bombing near Baghdad Tuesday. News on 6 reporter Ashli Sims visited Inola to talk with Grigg’s family and friends.
Travis Grigg called his father from Iraq on Saturday. He told him not to worry, he was doing ok. Just three days later, two military men showed up at his father's house to tell him, his son was dead.
24-year-old Travis Grigg was killed in a roadside bombing in Baghdad on Tuesday. He was part of the 320th field artillery unit serving with the 101st Airborne.
Grigg's hometown of Inola is taking the loss pretty hard. Just about every flag in town was lowered to half-staff and they had a special ceremony Wednesday morning at his high school.
Barney Grigg says his son volunteered for the army and was proud to serve. "Caring, very athletic, cared more about other people's need then I think he did his own.â€
Inola High School principal Robert Kinnick: “I taught him as a junior high student and I was his high school principal so it hits us close to home."
Travis Grigg is Oklahoma's 42nd casualty in the war in Iraq.
