A Tulsa security guard is recuperating after surgery, after he was shot in the face at a Tulsa apartment complex early Wednesday morning.

The shooter still hasn't been caught, and could be armed and dangerous.

News on 6 anchor Terry Hood says a security officer from Ferguson International was patrolling an apartment complex at 4858 S 78th Place, when he was shot outside the laundry room.

Investigators say the security officer confronted a Hispanic man and the two started fighting. Tulsa Police say the guard tried to use pepper spray on the suspect twice. The suspect got a hold of the guard's gun and shot him twice. His bulletproof vest stopped a shot to his back, but then, he was shot in the face.

Neither police nor the security company has been able to find the guard's gun.

Ferguson International's Captain Benjy Smith had dinner with the wounded officer before his shift Tuesday night. He says the shooting will be on every officer's mind. "He's in real good hands, very, very good hands, so the doctors guarantee us they're going to take good care of him, so we're going to deal that away and leave it up to the man upstairs to help us out too."

Tulsa Police are looking for a Hispanic man, between 5-8 and 5-10. He was wearing a red hooded sweatshirt and jeans with a tear in the seat. Police believe he left in a red blazer with a silver stripe.

Investigators say he may also be carrying the guard's gun since no one's found it yet.
