OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Students from across Oklahoma gathered at the Cox Convention Center in Oklahoma City Tuesday for the Governor's seventh Annual Safe Schools Summit.

Among the celebrities addressing thousands of screaming students was actor Colin Hanks, the 22-year-old son of Oscar winning actor Tom Hanks.

Nationally recognized experts in the fields of violence prevention, bullying, diversity, and self-esteem also spoke as did Governor Brad Henry and state Superintendent Sandy Garrett.

8th-grade counselor Krista Gillespie at Highland West Junior High School in Moore says she enjoyed the focus on bullying. She says student bullying is often a problem for students, particularly in junior high as students enter adolescence.
