The dry conditions across Oklahoma have been fueling grass fires for the last week, but now Tulsa firefighters have more resources on their side.
This is their seventh grass fire rig. It's smaller than the others, to allow them to fight fires in tough terrain. It also has a foam injection system that helps water penetrate deeper into brush.
The fire department's own mechanics installed all the bells and whistles to a 1989 Chevy truck they already had, which saved taxpayers a lot of money.
Tulsa Fire Captain Larry Bowles: "As we've had to become more efficient, by doing the same or more work with less dollars, this is one prime example of a way we've become more efficient as a department.â€
If the department would have bought the truck new it would have cost more than a $100,000.
