One in four American Indian men is a veteran of the Armed Forces. That's why the Cherokee Nation in Tahlequah felt it was important to build a Cherokee Warrior's Memorial.

The memorial is 100 feet across, adorned with a 50 foot Cherokee nation seal. There are several flag poles and a granite centerpiece inscribed in both Cherokee and English.

Cherokee Chief Chad Smith: "Our vets are not only patriots of the United States; they're patriots of the Cherokee nation. They served two governments very well and we're proud of them for both reasons."

Bricks for the memorial sidewalk are still for sale. They sell for $25 and can be engraved with a personal message.

There is a second phase planned for the memorial that includes a Veterans Center.
