MUSKOGEE, Okla. (AP) -- A federal grand jury has indicted the former city manager of McAlester on five counts alleging he embezzled money from programs that received federal funds.

The indictment accuses Randy Green of taking at least $25,000 in US Department of Transportation and Federal Aviation Administration funds from 2000 to 2005.

The charges didn't address the $579,000 in unused leave pay Green received that led to his termination, which sparked a scandal that ultimately led to the resignations of the mayor and other council members.

The five-count indictment alleged that Green embezzled, stole, obtained by fraud and intentionally misapplied property valued at more than $5,000 that belonged to the municipal government.

Each count lists the FAA as the federal program from which city funds were embezzled.

Neither Green nor his attorney, Drew Wilcoxen, could be reached for comment.
