OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- State Representative Fred Morgan Wednesday officially announced his candidacy for the Republican nomination to Congress in the Fifth Congressional District.

Morgan cited former President Ronald Reagan as an influence and said the nation needs conservatives who will fight deficit spending and "pork barrel" politics while supporting traditional family values.

Morgan joins Lieutenant Governor Mary Fallin and Corporation Commissioner Denise Bode in the race for the GOP nomination.

Oklahoma City teacher Bert Smith is the only announced Democratic candidate, but former Lieutenant Governor Jack Mildren and Oklahoma City businessman Jim Meyer are considering the race.
