TAHLEQUAH, Okla. (AP) A 28-year-old Tahlequah woman was killed and her 7-year-old son seriously injured when her car slid off the roadway and struck a tree in Cherokee County.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says Cheryl Cummings was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash about 7:30 Tuesday morning. 7-year-old Nokoma Romannose was transported by life flight to Saint Francis Hospital in Tulsa with head and leg injuries.
The patrol says Cummings was northbound on Oaks Road north of Tahlequah when she went off the roadway, overcorrected and slammed into a tree.
The OHP says the woman and her son were not wearing seat belts.
