OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ An organization that works to help the homeless in Oklahoma City wants people to give panhandlers a bus ticket instead of cash.

The Homeless Alliance is printing vouchers what will be good for a bus ride to one of the city's three shelters _ City Rescue Mission, Grace Rescue Mission or the Salvation Army.

The idea is to stop giving cash that may be used to buy alcohol or drugs and instead send the homeless to a shelter where they can get food, a place to stay and other help.

Alliance director Dan Straughan says booklets with five $1 tickets are on sale on the alliance's Web site and will be sold in some downtown office buildings.
