Glenpool is getting ready for a party. They are celebrating a centennial, 100 years of oil.

News on 6 reporter Rick Wells found they've put a new spin on an old idea. A series of trading cards will help promote the event. The challenge is to collect them all.

A hundred years ago a wildcattrer named Robert Galbreath discovered oil on the Glenn farm in what is now south Tulsa County, and things around here have never been the same. The City of Glenpool's getting ready to celebrate.

Carol Campbell with the Glenpool Chamber of Commerce: "What we are celebrating is the centennial of the discovery not the town itself."

They're having birthday cake, they've got t-shirts and other commemorative stuff, and trading cards. They've produced a series of ten cards. Those cards will be scattered around to local businesses. "The idea is to circulate around town see if you can get all ten."

The Glenn Pool which is what they called the gigantic oil field back then was once known as the worlds largest oil field, it produced nearly 300-million barrels of oil in it's first 75 years and it all started with that original discovery.

There is some talk of relocating the original well site, but it's on private property.

The Glenpool library has a display of historical documents and photos. Jack Frank has produced an historical videoand you'll want to get a set of trading cards. "We'll have them around at businesses."

The big Glenn Pool centennial celebration is set for Saturday November 12th. Details are available on the Glenpool Chamber website.
