WRIGHT CITY, Okla. (AP) -- Weyerhaeuser Company is closing its lumber plant in McCurtain County, leaving about 250 people without a job.
The veneer and plywood plant in Wright City told workers of the decision Monday. About 100 employees have been laid off since August when the building housing the plywood presses collapsed.
Weyerhaeuser spokeswoman Kathy Stacey says the company will meet with union officials to discuss benefits. She says the workers will be given 60 days severance pay and counseling.
Weyerhaeuser still has a lumber mill in Wright City, a containerboard mill in Valliant and a containerboard packaging plant and a distribution center in Oklahoma City.
