OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- A former Oklahoma County jail employee says she was fired after watching deputies beat an inmate confined to a wheelchair, then try to cover up the incident.

Randi Gill is suing county commissioners, the sheriff's office and Sheriff John Whetsel.

Gill says she saw a deputy dump an "old inmate" out of the wheelchair and beat him with a mop handle while several other officers watched.

Six sheriff's department employees were fired three days after the incident in May 2004. But department attorney Danny Honeycutt says he saw a videotape of the incident and doesn't classify it as a beating. Honeycutt also says the district attorney declined to file charges in the case.

Sheriff's officials deny Gill was fired because she saw the incident but would not say why she was fired.

Gill's attorney says the department claims she stole items from the mail room, a charge Gill denies.
