A record number of Oklahomans are filing for bankruptcy this year.

Officials say hundreds of financially strapped Oklahomans are looking for protection before October 17th. That's when new federal rules will make it tougher to wipe out debt.

The reforms are the biggest overhaul to bankruptcy law since 1978.

On September 30th alone, nearly 300 bankruptcies were filed in US bankruptcy court in Oklahoma City.
