OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- State agriculture officials are worried that an outbreak of armyworms in southwestern Oklahoma will spread across the state.

Thousands of acres of wheat have already been lost in southwestern Oklahoma.

Oklahoma State University entomologist Tom Royer says a wet August and warm temperatures contributed to the outbreak.

Royer says all farmers can do now is spray their crops or wait the worms out until the first killing freeze. But waiting could affect ranchers who use the wheat to graze their cattle during the winter.
