Another Oklahoma soldier has made the ultimate sacrifice in the war on terror.

29-year old Army Staff Sergeant John Doles was killed in an ambush while serving in Afghanistan. Doles was from Chelsea in Rogers County.

6 in the Morning reporter Omar Villafranca says when John Doles told his father he joined the Army, his dad thought he was crazy.

Then when Doles told his father he was training to be an Army Ranger, his dad joked that he knew his son was crazy. Being an Army Ranger, Gene Doles says he knew his son would be in some of the hottest spots on the war on terror. But John Doles told his father he loved his country and that's what he wanted to do with his life.

John Doles was assigned to the 173rd Airborne. Gene says many of John's missions were classified, so he never knew exactly what his son was doing.

Last Friday, Staff Sergeant John Doles was killed in Shah Wali, Afghanistan in an ambush.

While most American's get daily updates on Iraq, Gene doesn't want people to forget the other soldiers fighting elsewhere in the Middle East. “Everybody's concentrating on Iraq, which is understandable. But we're still tracking down Al-Qaeda and trying to find Bin Laden."

John Doles graduated from Chelsea High School. He was living in Italy at the time of his death. He leaves behind a wife and two young children.

Funeral services are pending.
