An overgrown patch of median on a busy Tulsa street was cut down to size Tuesday and it didn't cost the city a dime.

News on 6 reporter Emory Bryan explained on Monday how the city budget has cut back on how often the city cuts the grass, in right of way, and medians.

One of the problem areas the News on 6 pointed out Monday was handled Tuesday, by some volunteers, who mowed a mile of median in the 8100 block of South Memorial.

It was set up by radio station KRMG, who recruited professional landscapers to knock it out over the lunch hour. KRMG News Joe Kelley: "Tulsa is a beautiful city and letâ€™s keep it that way and letâ€™s do our part to be good groundskeepers for the city of Tulsa."

The city only mows medians 8 times a year, but that's not enough for a summer with this much rain. Thanks to a radio station and some listeners who volunteered, this 9th mowing was a freebie.
