OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ Two linebackers each from Tulsa and Oklahoma are on the watch list for the Butkus Award that was released today.
The award is given annually to college football's best linebacker.
The candidates include Tulsa's Nick Bunting and Nelson Coleman and Oklahoma's Rufus Alexander and Zach Latimer.
The schools are two of only seven colleges that two players on the watch list. The others are Texas-El Paso, Penn State, Southern California and Colorado.
The selection committee for the Butkus Award will choose ten semifinalists on October 19th and three finalists on November ninth. The winner of the award will be announced on December ninth.
Two of the last five Butkus Award winners have played at Oklahoma. Rocky Calmus won the award in 2001 and Teddy Lehman was the 2003 winner.
