CHOTEAU, Okla. (AP) -- Mayes County authorities say a Texas man apparently killed himself after leading police on a short chase early Thursday morning near Choteau.

Authorities say an officer saw Mike Prock at a convenience store south of Choteau about 1:30 Thursday morning and recognized him as being wanted in Texas in the death of his ex-wife.

Prock then led police on a short chase at speeds of no more than 50 miles per hour when police used stop sticks to flatten the tires of his pickup truck.

Prock then drove into a field and stopped.

Deputies approached the truck after a Grand River Dam Authority with a spotlight arrived and Prock was found dead inside.

Authorities say they didn't hear gunfire and aren't sure how Prock died. His body is being sent to the state medical examiner's office.
