Federal investigators release their final report on the I-40 bridge collapse that killed 14 people in May of 2002.
The US Coast Guard report recommends that the towboat captain and the boat's owner be fined for their roles in the accident. Captain Joe Dedmon lost consciousness and crashed the boat into the Webber's Falls bridge, causing cars to plunge into the water below.
The US Coast Guard recommends a $20,000 fine for the boat’s owner. They say Magnolia Marine allowed Dedmon to work more than 12 hours in one day without adequate rest.
The report recommends Dedmon pay a $5,000 fine for working without enough rest.
