OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Democrats and Republicans have nominated their respective leaders in the state House of Representatives to face each other for the chance to be Oklahoma's next lieutenant governor.
State House Democratic leader Jari Askins defeated former congressional aide Pete Regan of Afton to become the Democratic nominee.
The Republican runoff came down to the wire as House Speaker Todd Hiett edged state Senator Scott Pruitt of Broken Arrow. Hiett got 51 percent of the vote and beat Pruitt by about 2,500 votes out of more than 130,000 ballots that were cast.
Askins, Hiett and independent candidate EZ Million of Norman will now meet in the general election in November.
