Jane Doe was found dead alongside a Muskogee County road last April.
The Muskogee County Sheriff's Office believes she may have bled to death after a possible miscarriage. No one has stepped forward to identify her or claim her body. She was facing a paupers funeral until a muskoggee couple stepped up to help.
Dozens of people filled the Reed and Culver Chapel in Tahlequah Saturday. They came to remember a woman they don't even know. Jane Doe was found dead alongside a county road in southeastern Muskogee county last April.
Mary Carey saw the unidentified woman's picture, she didn't recognize her, but she says she felt a kinship with the woman. She told me she saw members of her own family in Jane Doe's face. When no one claimed Jane Doe's body, Carey offered to pay for a proper funeral.
Family, Friends and even strangers embraced the idea, donating flowers and participating in today's service. Jane Doe's own family wasn't there to carry her to her final resting place, but a family of strangers stepped up to make sure it was done with dignity and respect.
Mary Carey: "we don't have to know this woman. She may be latino, a hispanic, she may be an Indian from another country. We don't have to know her to love her. Cause I think we all understand that God Loves us."
