Some Owasso firefighters got some valuable hands-on training Friday. The department held a "live fire" exercise at a vacant building that the city plans to tear down.
Seasoned veterans say it gives rookie firefighters a chance to things they just can't get from a textbook.
Tom Robinson with the Owasso Fire Department: "with the department growing like it has been, we've got a lot of younger guys, newer guys, so this is a good opportunity for them to fight fire in a controlled environment where it's safe."
Along with fighting those real flames, the fire crews also practiced rescuing people trapped in the fire.
