INDIANAPOLIS (AP) Indiana coach Kelvin Sampson has been reprimanded by the National Association of Basketball Coaches, an organization on which he once served on the board of directors.
The reprimand is because of recruiting violations during his tenure at Oklahoma.
The NABC put Sampson on probation for the next three years. He's prohibited from serving in an official capacity with the organization, ineligible for district and national coach of the year awards and loses his Final 4 ticket privileges.
The decision comes nearly three months after the NCAA imposed recruiting restrictions on Sampson for making excessive phone calls to recruits. The NCAA ruled Sampson and his assistants made 577 extra phone calls to 17 recruits between 2000 and 2004.
Indiana sports information director Pete Rhoda says Sampson has addressed those issues and has no additional comment.
