Before Tulsa Public School teachers head back to the classroom they charted a course toward excellence Tuesday.

The teachers gathered for their annual convocation at the Tulsa County Fairgrounds Pavilion.

The event gets them energized for the school year ahead, with new superintendent Dr. Michael Zolkoski leading the charge. â€œStudents want one thing from you. Only one thing. I always thought with my kids it was money. But they want one thing, and it is someone to care about them. If you care about someone, they'll show you that respect back. Caring is what schools are all about."

Tulsa Public Schools kicks off their new school year Monday.
