The switch to school uniforms is catching some Tulsa parents off-guard. One mother says she didn't get a clear picture of what clothes to buy, and now she's paying the price.

News on 6 anchor Terry Hood says all Tulsa middle schools switched to uniform policies this school year.

A lot of parents are still figuring out approved colors, styles, and accessories.

Ristina Garcia thought she had it figured out when she called her kids' schools and asked what color shirts and pants to get. She stocked up on orange, blue, and white T-shirts, only to find out T-shirts aren't allowed. Most schools want students in polos or oxfords. "If they're not going to allow the shirts that I bought, I don't know what I'm gonna do. Because, like I said, It's kind of expensive, especially when you've got four children."

The school told Garcia she could get a voucher to get one shirt for free, but says it'll be hard to have her kids wear one shirt for the rest of the year.

Tulsa Public Schools have a complete list of uniform specifics on their website.
