McALESTER, Okla. (AP) -- Pittsburg County commissioners are choosing a Bixby company for a jail expansion and renovation project.

Atlas General Contractors submitted a winning bid of just under $9-million to build the Pittsburgh County Justice Center.

The project includes new construction plus renovation of the existing jail. The work will expand the jail's capacity from 65 inmates to 175.

Pittsburg County voters approved a three-fourths of one percent sales tax to pay for the jail plus renovation of the county courthouse and an animal shelter.
