Thunder On The Westside

A group in west Tulsa is taking its neighborhood back. After years of drug deals, high crime and gang problems, the Greater Cornerstone Development Project is making sure growth on the westside is positive.

News on 6 anchor Scott Thompson says Pastor Willard Jones says you can notice the change in South Haven. That's a neighborhood south of I-44 and west of the Arkansas River. For years, South Haven was plagued by crime and gangs.

Now Pastor Jones says thanks to Habitat for Humanity, new homes are going up. They've already built 50, and 50 more are slated to go up in the next two years. Also in the works, a multi-million dollar community centers, to serve the underprivileged neighborhood. He says a lot of the credit goes to "Thunder on the Westside", a revival and community awareness program Jones started four years ago.

"People, they aren't turning their heads anymore. And the communities are meeting at our churches for neighborhood meetings, and it's all working. It's very positive. The revitalization of that entire area has begun."

"Thunder on the Westside" continues through Wednesday night at Carbondale Assembly of God, with guest speakers from across the country.

Proceeds go to building that community center.
