Tulsa quarterbacks combine for 4 TDs in scrimmage

TULSA, Okla. (AP) _ Tulsa quarterbacks Paul Smith and David Johnson combine for four touchdown passes as the Golden Hurricane hold their first football scrimmage of the preseason.

Smith completed 7 of 14 passes for 101 yards and two touchdowns last night while Johnson went 5 of 9 for 83 yards and two scores.

But the offense's success was sporadic, as Tulsa's defense held the offense out of the end zone on 14 of the 21 series in the 75-minute scrimmage.

The defense caused three turnovers, including an interception at the 2-yard line by Bobby Blackshire.

Offensive highlights including a 46-yard catch-and-run screen pass for a touchdown from Johnson to running back Brandon Diles and a 60-yard completion from Smith to Jesse Meyer.

Freshman Dexter Taylor led the Golden Hurricane in rushing, with 10 carries for 49 yards and two touchdowns, one on a 20-yard run.

Both of Ted Curtis' catches went for touchdowns, on plays of 3 and 16 yards.
