OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- State Department of Labor statistics released Friday show that more truck drivers died on the job in Oklahoma last year than those in any other profession.
Of the 95 workplace fatalities recorded in Oklahoma in 2005, 57 of them, or 60 percent, involved transportation incidents. That's a 12 percent rise from 2004.
Twenty of those deaths were of truck drivers, which accounts for 21 percent of the state's job-related fatalities.
In 2004, the state had 91 workplace fatalities.
Labor Commissioner Brenda Reneau says that ever-changing variables and road hazards support defensive driver training for all workers who drive on the job.
