TULSA, Okla. (AP) _ Tulsa's got one of the nation's best quarterbacks in Golden Hurricane starter Paul Smith.
But TU also has one of the best backup quarterbacks in the nation in David Johnson.
Johnson is a redstart sophomore and would likely start on most of the nation's 119 NCAA Division 1-A teams.
The 20-year-old Johnson showed his promise in Tulsa's season opener last year against Minnesota, when Smith was sidelined by injury. he completed 20-of-30 passes for 172 yards and a touchdown.
With Smith health, Johnson threw only eleven passes the rest of the season.
The competition between smith and Johnson doesn't distract either of them. Johnson and Smith are off-campus roommates.
