OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ Texas A&M-Commerce has asked the University of Oklahoma for permission to contact ousted quarterback Rhett Bomar to discuss his possible transfer to the school.
Coach Bob Stoops dismissed Bomar and offensive lineman J.D. Quinn from the team on Wednesday for breaking NCAA rules by accepting compensation beyond the actual hours they worked at a Norman car dealership.
In response to media inquiries, A&M Commerce released a statement from director of athletics, Jim Johnson, yesterday.
Johnson says while his school is firmly committed to following all NCAA rules and legislation, a request has been sent to OU asking permission to contact Bomar about coming to the school.
Bomar hails from Grand Prairie, Texas. He set an OU freshman record with 2018 passing yards last season after taking over as the starter.
An attempt to contact Bomar for comment was unsuccessful.
