NORMAN, Okla. (AP) _ The dismissal of Oklahoma quarterback Rhett Bomar and offensive lineman JD Quinn is proving a point for OU defensive coordinator Brent Venables.
Venables says his defense has to be prepared for the unexpected that could happen at any moment and the dismissal of the starting quarterback is an example.
Venables says with or without Bomar the Sooners must play great defense but the defense must be prepared to succeed at every position under all circumstances.
He says the defense ``has a chance'' to be pretty good and improve on last year when OU was sixth in the Big 12 in points allowed after leading the conference in defense each two years in a row.
