ENID, Okla. (AP) -- The cities of Enid and Ponca City are expected to lose their airline services.
The US Department of Transportation is issuing a final order to terminate the Essential Air Service Subsidy for Great Lakes Airlines as of September 1st.
The government provides funding to subsidize carriers to provide airline service to places like Enid and Ponca City that otherwise wouldn't have air service. Officials say without the subsidy it's not economically feasible for an airline to serve those cities.
