Retailers are offering up deep discounts this weekend. Tulsa's Promenade Mall kicks off its "same as tax free" shopping event this weekend.

Discounts will equal what consumers would normally pay in state and local taxes. The discounts apply to everything from backpacks and shoes, to new haircuts.

Retailers expect clothes to be the big seller, so they stocked up on the latest styles. Store manager Luke Fall: "last year at this time we had all tore up looks, paint spots, you name it. Distressed look everywhere. Now we have more of the clean, dressed up look because a lot of schools, if they aren't going to uniforms, are going to nice clean denims."

Many schools now have strict dress codes and retailers will offer breaks on boys and girls uniforms.

Tulsa Promenade Mall's "Same as Tax Free" event started Friday and runs through Sunday.

All three major department stores are participating in the event.
