A close call for a couple of teenagers on the Arkansas River overnight.

The Jenks and Tulsa Fire Departments were called for two teens trapped on a sand bar near 91st Street. Water was being released from the dam, putting the entire sand bar under water.

When the fire department made it to the teenagers, the water had reached their ankles. That made it nearly impossible for them to swim out.

Jenks firefighter John Tilghman: "I wouldn't advise anybody to get out there unless they're an expert swimmer, a life jacket for sure. It's definitely not a place for any children to be out playing on, and I don't think those children that were out there tonight will go back out there, I hope they don't."

The teens used a cell phone to call for help. Neither one was injured.
