Rhett Bomar's dismissal from the OU football squad is sending shock waves throughout Sooner Country.
News on 6 reporter Ashli Sims caught up with some fans to get their reaction to the news.
"Ya know, he's gone. We know he's important to us. We know we probably won't win a national championship now, you think."
News of Rhett Bomar's departure from the Sooner football squad reverberated throughout a subdued Big Red Sales store. Shane Keim with Big Red Sales: "it was really shock. I mean the place got dead quiet. Everybody was standing around our little radio right here all just waiting to hear what happened."
The Sooners starting quarterback was kicked off the football team for violating NCAA rules. Shane Keim found out from a customer and he's had the tough task of delivering the news to Sooner fans. “I hate breaking it to people, because they come in here looking like they're having such a good day. Its hot but its nice outside ya know they're on their lunch break or something and then I tell them Bomar's gone and they're just crushed."
The Sports Fan Attic says they've stocked plenty of Rhett Bomar jerseys. But soon the number 7 is going on sale. Store clerk and Sooner fan Margie Wright's trying to look on the bright side. "I'm glad they did it at the beginning of the year instead of in the middle of the season, though."
A Sooner fan says it’s too early for optimism and he's mourning what he believes could have been a championship season. Shane Keim: "I mean its shot. I mean we go from looking like a national championship contender to I'm glad we don't have to play Tulsa again."
Ouch, it seems like it might take a little time for Sooner fans to get over this blow. But they've got the whole season to do it.
