OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ Officials say they have no explanation for why eggs found in young Lake Eufaula catfish were a reddish-purple color.
Wildlife officials asked the Department of Environmental Quality to conduct tests on the eggs after they were found by anglers in May.
The agency ran tests for pesticides, organic compounds and metal but found nothing unusual. However, spokeswoman Monty Elder says the DEQ used tests they usually conduct when testing fish flesh because it had never tested fish eggs before.
Officials have several hypotheses for what caused the discoloration, but nothing has been proven yet.
