Deadly Heat Wave Continues To Blister Oklahoma

STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) -- Oklahomans are struggling through another day of above 100 degree temperatures and hoping a forecast that includes a chance of rain for the end of the week comes true.

Greek organizations at Oklahoma State are preparing for the heat as they get ready to meet recruits. Sororities are putting up tents and stocking them with water to help keep the new students hydrated.

Thirteen people have died of heat stroke in the state since July 13th.

A heat advisory remains in effect until 7 tonight but the National Weather Service says some relief could come Thursday. Parts of northern Oklahoma could get rain on Thursday along with temperatures peaking in the mid 90s.

The heat plus a drought is also creating ideal conditions for wildfires. State Agriculture Department spokesman Jack Carson says no burn bans have been issued but officials are gathering information about the danger of wildfires.
