OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- State Senator Cal Hobson is calling for another special legislative session to consider increasing funding for schools and teacher retirement.
Hobson -- who's a Democratic candidate for lieutenant governor -- says he wants another $21.7-million for public schools in the upcoming school year. He says that will guarantee 100 percent funding of $3,000 a year teacher pay raises approved by state lawmakers this year.
Hobson also wants lawmakers to spend $20-million for the under funded teacher's retirement system.
He says money for both issues can be taken from June's state tax collections, which are expected to be $80-million above estimates.
Lawmakers met in special session last month to finish the state budget.
