The remains of an Owasso High School student found just blocks from his home.
Owasso Police now confirm, the remains found Saturday afternoon in a field near 112th Street North and Garnett, are those of a missing 18 year old.
News on 6 reporter Joshua Brakhage says a teenager was scouting an Owasso field Saturday, looking for a place to ride their 4-wheeler when they stumbled across body parts.
Owasso Police now say it’s a teenager, who has been missing for almost three weeks.
Step-by-step Owasso Police officers, reserves, and Tulsa County Sheriff's deputies searched the field for human remains.
Owasso Police Chief Dan Yancey says investigators came across ID that positively identified the remains as Eric Miller. "We don't know how long he has been in this field. Decomposition had set in already. Obviously, we're out here working the scene again today, trying to find the remainder of the bones that appear to be throughout this field."
Dozens of orange flags mark the spots where detectives and cadaver dogs found Eric Miller's remains. The chief says the remains were scattered by animals.
Dan Yancey: "It's undetermined at this point if we even have a crime. We're obviously investigating to see if there is foul play or not."
Yancey says the 18-year-old lived at home with his family, including his mother, an Owasso Police dispatcher. "I don't think it would be unusual for this person to be away from the home. Obviously this person is an adult, so they have the right to stay away from home for an extended period of time."
Yancey says the family waited 10 days before they reported him missing. Now, a week later, they have answers, but not the happy ending they were hoping for.
Yancey says Eric Miller was last seen alive on June 22nd. Detectives are now interviewing his friends and the Tulsa Medical Examiner is looking at his remains in hopes of finding out how he died.
