A Vinita family is still in shock after learning their son, 23-year old US Marine Sgt. Justin Noyes was killed in Iraq. Noyes was on patrol near Fallujah when an explosion took his life.
News on 6 reporter Heather Lewin says Sgt. Noyes' parents got the call late Sunday night.
They say their son was a demolition specialist, called in whenever his fellow troops found IEDs. Noyes was working on dismantling a device near Fallujah, when a separate bomb the unit hadn't spotted exploded beneath him.
Noyes was on his second tour in Iraq. His parents say he enlisted in the Marine Corps even before he'd graduated high school and was very proud of his job.
Justin’s mom Stacey Noyes: "He'd tell me mom don't worry, cause I'd cry when he'd leave, he'd say mom don't worry, I'll be okay, he said this is my job and I said I'm very proud of you."
Noyes went on leave just over a year ago to get married. Family members say he and his wife Sarah had to have a quick ceremony so she could be stationed overseas with him. The family had planned to have a big wedding with everyone when he came home from Iraq in September.
